Major reshuffle expected in Maharashtra Police leadership

The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Rural police cracks whip on illegal sand excavators, seize eight trucks

More than 100 trucks seized during last four months for transporting illegally excavated sand

Continuing its crackdown on illegal excavation and transportation of sand in district, Nagpur Rural Police on Sunday seized eight trucks from Ramadongri and Sahuli sand ghats. The police have also arrested eight persons who were on board the trucks.

Local Crime Branch (LCB) raided the sand ghats during wee hours of Sunday. Sand was being excavated and the cops cordoned off the area and seized the trucks. The accused are identified as Gautam Udaram Borkar (35), a resident of Khairpanjab; Salman Khan Sayyad Khan (23), Siddharth Mahadev Bapne (40), both residents of Nagpur and Sukhdev Antu Uikey (40), a resident of Ramdongri. The cops have seized 9 brass of sand that illegally excavated and filled in the trucks. Khapa police have registered the case under sections 379, 109 and 34 of Indian Penal Code.

In an another raid, another team of LCB swooped at the sand ghat in Sahuli village at 5.45 am and seized four trucks. The cops have recovered six brass sand from the trucks here.  Cops arrested four truck drivers identified as Krishna Kothiram Khandate (20), a resident of Bhanegaon; Kirpal Baliram Nagre, Anil Baban Sindurkar, both residents of Binasangam, Pradip Chunnilal Khobragade , a resident of Kalafata. Parsheoni police have registered the case under sections 379, 109, 511 and 34 of IPC. 

Superintendent of Police (SP) Dr Aarti Singh said that the action would continue against illegal excavation and transportation of sand in the district. Many sand mafias are already put behind bar as police try to bust the organised gangs. District police she said have seized more than 100 trucks that was being used for transporting the illegally excavated sand and other minor minerals during last four months. 

Staff of LCB led by Police Inspector Jayesh Bhandarkar, API Dinesh Labde and staff comprising Moreshwar Nagpure, Pramod Bansod, Madan Asatkar, Dilip Lanjewar, Avinash Raut, Suresh Gate and Vasanta Chute carried out the raids.

DCP Sunil Kolhe gets IPS cadre

DCP (crime) Sunil Kolhe By Dheeraj Fartode About 28 State Police Service (SPS) officers were granted  Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre on Monday. At Nagpur, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) (Crime) Sunil Kolhe is among these officers. With their promotion, Maharashtra Government will fill-up the existing vacancies of cadre posts across the State. The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Government of India, approved the promotion and Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), issued the notification of 28 state police officers into IPS cadre.  Maharashtra Government had earlier empanelled the 28 officers for promotion of SPS officers into IPS and criteria was they should have served for atleast eight years as Superintendent of Police (SP) or Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP). The list includes names of officers belonging to Deputy Superintendent of Police (Dy.SP) batches between 1988 and 1995, who were promoted to the IPS cadre. The officers are S V Jadhav, B G
