Major reshuffle expected in Maharashtra Police leadership

The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Other notable contenders include Thane CP Jaijeet Singh, DG ATS Sadanand Date, DG Police Housing Sandeep Bishnoi, DG Railway Pradnya Sarvade, Additional Director of NIA Atulchandra Kulkarni, and DG State Security Corporation Bipin Kumar Singh, he said. Seven rounds fired at Hasanbag, goon dead, two injured

Sensation prevailed in Hasanbag area on Tuesday after property dealer, he was younger brother of notorious goon Shamsher Ali, was shot dead over a property dispute. Gaffar Ali Ramjan Ali (40) was shot from almost point blank range at his eatery located at Aurangzeb Square. The incident police said occurred at 7 pm.
The shooters police said came on a two wheeler and shot Gaffar and later fled on their bike. Gaffar was involved in property dealing and sources said the shooting was fallout of a dispute over a prime piece of land. The bike-borne goons fired seven rounds that left two others injured in the attack. The accused police said used two fire arms to kill Gaffar.

Gaffar was at his eatery when the accused arrived on mobike from his back to avoid getting detected. The accused parked their motorbike and fired rounds from point blank range. Gaffar sustained injuries to his neck, chest and leg. Two others Ibrahim Sheikh Akbar Sheikh and Sazish Gamahe who were at the eatery also sustained injuries in the attack. Chaos reigned supreme at the eatery after the shooting as people ran helter skelter.
Gaffar was rushed to GMCH where doctors declared him brought dead. Ibrahim and Sazish were rushed to a private hospital. 
Commissioner of Police K K Pathak, Joint CP Sanjay Saxena, Addl. CP Deepak Pandey, DCP (Zone-IV) Chandra Kishore Mina rushed to the spot to coordinate the police investigations.
Thousands of residents assembled at the spot as the news of shooting spread in the area. City police summouned Quick Response Team (QRT) and deployed additional police bandobast to avoid any untoward incident. 
According to sources, Mehfus Ahmed Kabul Hasan Siddiqui, a resident of Bihar is suspected to be involved in the shooting. The police have detained two persons, Alim and Kalim Khan, both residents of Hasanbagh area, for questioning. Kalim and Alim are brother in-laws of Siddiqui.
According to sources, the shooting of Gaffar was the fallout of a simmering property dispute between Gaffar and Shamsher and their vials Kalim and Salim. The fours were earlier partners in property business but disputes cropped-up between them and they parted their ways.
Police are relying heavily on eye-witnesses to provide description of two shooters. They identified Siddiqui from the photographs of criminals shown by the. However police yet to find out whether Gaffar’s killing has supari element Gaffar and probing involvement of Kalim and Alim. 
DCP Mina told ‘The Hitavada’ that special team have fanned out to nab the shooters and expressed confidence that the two accused would be found by midnight. The police have also deployed bandobast at GMCH as thousands of relatives of deceased have reached there.

DCP (crime) Sunil Kolhe By Dheeraj Fartode About 28 State Police Service (SPS) officers were granted  Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre on Monday. At Nagpur, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) (Crime) Sunil Kolhe is among these officers. With their promotion, Maharashtra Government will fill-up the existing vacancies of cadre posts across the State. The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Government of India, approved the promotion and Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), issued the notification of 28 state police officers into IPS cadre.  Maharashtra Government had earlier empanelled the 28 officers for promotion of SPS officers into IPS and criteria was they should have served for atleast eight years as Superintendent of Police (SP) or Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP).
