Sitting amid the blackened remains of his home, 32-year-old Nikesh Gawali carefully broke open a half-melted plastic box with a screwdriver. His hands shook slightly, not out of fear, but out of hope. “I’m trying to find my daughter Aarti’s gold earrings,” he said quietly, still focused on the box. “She’s just five. I got them made recently after months of labour work.” The plastic box, warped and blackened by heat, was one of the few things left from his two-room house on the outskirts of Dhamangaon village . All around him lay ash, broken tin sheets and charred wooden beams. The walls had cracked under the heat and the front room’s tin roof had caved in completely. Dhantoli police have booked a city trader for allegedly cheating a Kerala based firm to tune of Rs. 1.88 crore. The businessman is identified as Pravin Ninave (45), a resident of Riddhi Sadanika, Gajanan Nagar, Samajbhushan Layout, Wardha Road. He ran M/s National Commodity Supply Corporation of India, and had entered in and agreement with Sacchidanand Sridharan, a resident of Ernakulam, Kerala, representing M/s Omepars Tasuri Trading Company of Iran. He had placed an order of 14,500 tonnes of barley and total cost of the deal was Rs. 14,85,00,000 of which Pravin received Rs 1,88.50,000, 10 per cent amount, as advance.Ninave however did not supply the barley nor returned the money. Sridharan approached First Class Magistrate, and secured a order to lodge a complaint. Dhantoli police registered offence under secs. 156(3), 420, 406 of IPC.
