The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Other notable contenders include Thane CP Jaijeet Singh, DG ATS Sadanand Date, DG Police Housing Sandeep Bishnoi, DG Railway Pradnya Sarvade, Additional Director of NIA Atulchandra Kulkarni, and DG State Security Corporation Bipin Kumar Singh, he said. Chief Security Commandant of Central Railway and Inspector General of Railway Protection Force (RPF) Anil Sharma assured train passengers about their safety from naxal menace. “Despite of several major naxal attack on police in naxal affected area, Indian railway is safe from the naxals,” said Sharma.
IG Sharma was on special visit of Nagpur division of central railway on Thursday. He supervised security arrangements at Nagpur station and then went to Chandrapur station on Thursday evening. The IG have asked RPF officers to improve security arrangement at Chandrapur, Ballarshaha stations, which are comes under Naxal affected area.
Talking with newspersons at Nagpur railway station, IG Sharma said that RPF is very vigilant about safety of passengers. “Intelligence unit of RPF continuously coordinating with Intelligence Bureau (IB) and state police about information of naxals,” said the IG.
Replying a question about vacancies in the force, Sharma said that recruitment drive has been carried out across the nation to fill up the vacancies. New recruited RPF staff will serve in the force within six months, he added. Informing about Integrated Security System proposal at Nagpur railway station, which is pending for past three years, the IG said “after thinking over new security scenario of India, the system needed upgrade and modern version of Integrated security system.” First, the system will be installed at Mumbai and Pune railway station within six months and then upgraded version will be installed at Nagpur railway station, the IG informed. The chief security commandant further praised for work of Senior Divisional Security Commandant, Nagpur Division (Sr. DSC) Ibbrahim Sheriff. Assistant Security Commandant D Chobey, Inspector Kalyan Morey, R N Singh were present during the visit.
