Major reshuffle expected in Maharashtra Police leadership

The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Cops to slap MCOCA against Ghous

Commissioner of police (CP) K K Pathak on Wednesday announced that notorious shooter and arms dealer Ghous Ali Raja Waris Ali and his accomplices will be booked under Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA). “Serious offences like dacoity, attempt to murder were registered against Raja Ghous and his nine associates. City police is fully prepared to book the gang under MCOCA.”
City police had nabbed Raja Ghous from Gola Gokarannath town of Lakhimpur Kheri district in Uttar Pradesh on Monday night. Briefing mediapersons at his office, the top cop said that offences were registered against Ghous in Ajni, Sakkardara, Nandanvan, Sitabuldi and Rana Pratap Nagar police stations. Ghous went into hiding and escaped to Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh after firing and killing a youth-Roshan Samrite at Nagpur and abusing a girl on April 17. Later he had fired at police force near Jagnade square in which head constable Prakash Wankhede sustained bullet injuries, Pathak said.
The CP also added that Raja Ghous used to live in Tajbagh area before fire at police force on April 17, but denied any intelligence failure. Though, Ghous had fired at cops using fire-arms, the top police official denied that criminals were using sophisticated weapons and especially during past three years. He further added that cops have prepared a plan to nab criminals with weapons but refused to share further details.
During month long search operation conducted by crime branch to arrest Ghous, cops succeeded in arresting seven members of the gang. Identified as Bisen Singh, Farooq Ramlal Uikey, a resident of Seoni, Madhya Pradesh, Rajbhai Jagtarshingh Lakhansingh, a resident of Udhamsingh Nagar, Uttarakhand, Imran Khan and Shoeb Khan, both residents of Mankapur, Kishore Paunikar, a resident of Bhankheda and Moin Ansari alias Lalya, a resident of Nagpur.
Pathak further informed that during search operation of Ghous’s gang, cops have also arrested dreaded criminal Mohd Shamim and his four accomplices. Joint Commissioner of Police Sanjay Saxena had played key role in arrest of Ghous with active support and co-operation of Chief of Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh, who is batchmate of the Joint Commissioner.
The arrest was done under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sunil Kolhe and Police Inspector (Crime) Madhav Giri while staff comprising PI Avinash Shirimkar, API Vinod Choudhary, Manoj Joshi, Vijendra Yadav, Suryakant Chambhare, Manish Bhosle, Subhash Mishra, Pappu Shukla made the arrest. Ghous will be produced before the court on Thursday.

DCP Sunil Kolhe gets IPS cadre

DCP (crime) Sunil Kolhe By Dheeraj Fartode About 28 State Police Service (SPS) officers were granted  Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre on Monday. At Nagpur, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) (Crime) Sunil Kolhe is among these officers. With their promotion, Maharashtra Government will fill-up the existing vacancies of cadre posts across the State. The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Government of India, approved the promotion and Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), issued the notification of 28 state police officers into IPS cadre.  Maharashtra Government had earlier empanelled the 28 officers for promotion of SPS officers into IPS and criteria was they should have served for atleast eight years as Superintendent of Police (SP) or Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP).
