- The HQ has sanctioned the identified land for acquisition and is waiting for approval of State’s industries ministry
By Dheeraj Fartode
Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), Head Quarter has given approval for land acquisition of 3816 acres land in Kuhi and Umrer tehsils for the proposed National Infrastructure Manufacturing Zone (NIMZ). It has submitted a proposal in this connection recently to the Industry Ministry.
MIDC, Nagpur region, has also geared up for land acquisition for the second phase and identified 2316 acres of land situated nearby phase one. Now, MIDC is waiting for no objection certificates (NOC) from forest, mining and town planning departments for the second phase.
When contacted, Dilip Gawade, Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MIDC HQ, Mumbai, confirmed the information and said “The HQ has sanctioned the identified land for acquisition and is waiting for approval of State’s industries ministry. As soon as the sanction will be given, MIDC will execute land acquisition for the project.”
Initially, it was planned to execute the project in only one phase but later MIDC rolled back the decision and planned for two phases as MIDC HQ rejected the proposal that included 1,700 acre irrigated land.
Regional Officer of MIDC, Vijay Bhakre said that right now, MIDC has identified 9 villages from Kuhi tehsil and one village from Umrer tehsil for second phase. The corporation will acquire 2316 acre land including 71 acre government’s land, he said. “MIDC has received NOC from Western Coalfields Ltd (WCL) and Environment Department and now it is waiting for approval from forest, mining and town planning departments,” he added.
NIMZ is an industrial zone spread over an area of around 6,000 acres. Such zones are being set up at 8 centers throughout the country, which are expected to boost economic growth as well manufacturing units. NIMZ is being projected as a major catalyst for the region’s growth. However, even as two such zones have been notified in the state, the government has agreed ‘in principle’ Kuhi project. As per the government’s rule, NIMZ project requires minimum 5,500 acres of land. When acquisition will begin for the said site, Maharashtra Government will notify to the Central which will talk with international companies for installation of industrial units at NIMZ.
