The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. Sessions Court on Tuesday sentenced five persons including two police constables to life imprisonment in connection with a sensational murder at Gittikhadan.
District and Sessions Judge V P Ingle held Satish Sushilkumar Shukla (31), Shailesh Sushilkumar Shukla (30), Vipin Shrikant Mishra (26), Buland Shrikant Mishra (21), Rakesh alias Jeet Harikishan Meshram (20), a resident of Mankapur, guilty of brutal murder of Ashish Kalicharan Dubey (26) and awarded lifer to them. The court acquitted three accused- Sushilkumar Sarjuprasad Shukla (56), a resident of Mankapur, Dhiraj Sheshrao Gawande (19), a resident of Zingabai Takli and Pramod Chandrikaprasad Mishra (21), a resident of Mankapur, for want of sufficient corroborative evidence.
According to prosecution, on August 28, 2010, the accused stabbed to death Ashish Kalicharan Dubey (26), a resident of Ingole lay-out, near Nirmala tours and travels office. Sister-in-law of deceased Shanti Dubey in her statement stated that she rushed the deceased at hospital where doctors declared him as brought dead. The accused, who lived behind the residence of deceased, were forcing Ashish to sell his house. However, he refused to bow before his pressure and did not respond to repeated calls of the accused.
On the statement of the complainant eye-witness Shanti Dubey, Gittikhadan police had registered the case under sections 302, 34, 147, 148, 149, 120 (B) of IPC and started investigations. The court after examining evidence on record and after recording testimony of all witnesses, held the accused persons guilty and awarded rigorous life imprisonment.
