The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. As the passengers got irate over unavailability of bed-rolls in the train, 12611 Chennai-H Nizamuddin Garib Rath Express was detained at Ballarshah Railway Station for 25 minutes on Saturday.Divisional officers of Central Railway assured them to fulfill their demand at Nagpur Railway Station, following which the train moved ahead. At Nagpur station, demand of passengers was fulfilled and tension was relieved.
The train started journey from Chennai Central at 6.10 am. Sources said that a truck laden with bed-rolls for the train met an accident. Hence, Southern Railway missed to provide bed-rolls to around 500 passengers. The passengers demanded bed-rolls to Railway employees but, employees passed the buck by saying that they would provide bed-rolls at next station.
The passengers got angered when bed-rolls were not arranged by Railway employees even after journey of 12 hours. Passengers lost patience at Ballarshah Station and passengers created hurdles for the train when train reached Ballarshah at 6.15 pm. Sources claimed that train was detained at the station for 25 minutes and resumed journey at 6.50 pm after Railway officials pacified passengers with assurance of fulfilling their demand at Nagpur station.
After getting call from commercial control, Divisional officers arranged bed-rolls at Nagpur station and supplied them to passengers. However, the train, which regularly arrives at Platform No. 1 had to be diverted to Platform No. 6 to avoid detention of other trains. Public Relations Officer of Central Railway P D Patil said that 75 pillow covers, 175 blankets and 493 bed-sheets were supplied to passengers.
