By Dheeraj Fartode Imagine a police officer uploads an FIR and within seconds, an AI assistant begins planning the investigation. It write official letters, scan bank data and spot suspicious transactions. It sounds like science fiction - but it’s now reality in Maharashtra. The state police have started using Crime-OS, a powerful Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool developed under the MARVEL project (Maharashtra Research and Vigilance for Enhanced Law Enforcement). This tool, built in partnership with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur, works like the co-pilot feature in Microsoft Office - but to solve crimes. Ahead of State Legislature's winter session, the action is happening outside the political arena. For city police yet another emergency erupted after Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) staff allegedly bashed-up constables of Nagpur city police. The matter did not stop here as the angry CRPF constables reached MIDC police station and allegedly made an issue about registration of offence against them for their earlier action in CRPF campus. What's more shocking was joining of CRPF ranks by their superiors, taking advantage of fact that most of staff of MIDC police station was away in bandobast for winter session.
Police said that Narendra Nandankar attached to Ambazari police station was on way back to city with wife. The incident occurred around 9 pm when Nandankar's vehicle collided with bike being driven by a CRPF's constable. The mishap occurred near CRPF's campus gate no 4. Following the accident, a scuffle ensued between Nandankar and bike borne two CRPF constables who thrashed the former.
Nandankar promptly informed the matter to city police control room. A constable of MIDC police station Manoj Nagmote arrived at the spot and intervened in the matter. Nagmote asked Nandankar to proceed to police station for further probe. Hearing this the CRPF's constables informed the matter to their control room. Within few minutes more than 10 constables of CRPF arrived at the spot and ghearoed the lone MIDC constable, Nagmote who was on official duty and thrashed him wildly. On getting wind of the matter, staff of MIDC police station arrived at the spot and took injured Nagmote to police station.
After the incident, staff of CRPF including senior officers arrived at MIDC police station. The staff mounted pressured on duty officers of MIDC police station not to register offence against their men. At that only five to six police personnel were present at MIDC police station. With all senior officers busy with more pressing matters of winter session, the CRPF pressure worked and two city police constables were sent away with consolation.
MIDC police sent Nandankar and Nagmote to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for medical examination. Additional Commissioner of Police (South Region) Anant Shinde and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone I) Kailash Kanse rushed to police station and cooled down the tempers among two parties. DCP Kanse told The Hitavada’that the matter is in under inquiry and offices will be registered after studying medical report.
