Sitting amid the blackened remains of his home, 32-year-old Nikesh Gawali carefully broke open a half-melted plastic box with a screwdriver. His hands shook slightly, not out of fear, but out of hope. “I’m trying to find my daughter Aarti’s gold earrings,” he said quietly, still focused on the box. “She’s just five. I got them made recently after months of labour work.” The plastic box, warped and blackened by heat, was one of the few things left from his two-room house on the outskirts of Dhamangaon village . All around him lay ash, broken tin sheets and charred wooden beams. The walls had cracked under the heat and the front room’s tin roof had caved in completely. Cyber Cell of city police is showing grave concern over abusive comments on social networking sites and started operations to control it. The men of Cyber Cell are continuously surfing the sites round the clock and sending email to head office of social websites for removal of abusive data.
Assistant Police Inspector and In-charge of Cyber Cell Tapan Kolhe confirmed the information and said that offensive data on Facebook, Twitter, You Tube and other social networking sites was being continuously monitored by the Cell. If any offencive data is found on the webpages, the Cell promptly sends e-mail to the websites concerned requesting its removal from the webpage. The websites also act promptly over e-mail and remove the data in 48 hours, the API said. Row over Facebook posting occurred in state after two girls from Palghar posted comment on bandh called after death of Shiv Sena Supremo Balasaheb Thackeray. Fake accounts of Raj Thackeray and his son Amit were also noticed by the cops after complaint lodge by MNS workers.
Informing about action against fake accounts, the API said that authonticity of an account could be ascertained if the account-user reveals not only name but also phone number, address or photo (any one). If the victims notice such fake accounts in their names, they should approach to police station and lodge complaint. Thereupon, Cyber Cell will act and identify the culprits, API Kolhe added. Joint Commissioner of Police Sanjay Saxena said that if cops notice offensive contents, which could disturb peace and create law and order situation, cops would definitely initiate action to remove such contents from webpages. These are the preventive measures, which are being taken by city cops.
