Courage and chivalry shown by bus passengers foiled an audacious robbery bid in a running bus right in front of Central Prison by a group of robbers on Sunday. The robbers were trying to overpower bus driver on Wardha road, behind Central Jail under the jurisdiction of Dhantoli Police station. Accused were identified as Suraj Wasudeo Dhurve (18), a resident of Pandharabodi and two others, who succeeded to flee from spot.
A bus of ‘Savera’ travels (MH-40/Y-2115) was heading towards Wardha from Rahate colony square at 1.50 pm. Three scooty borne youths came from behind and blocked the bus right in front of Central jail gate. Two of them forcefully entered inside the bus and threatened bus driver Ravindra Kisanrao Kamble (34), a resident of Savangi Meghe, Wardha, with sharp edged weapons. One accused forcefully snatched Cash of Rs 1,000 and a mobile of Kamble. When the robbers abused driver, the driver promptly caught hand of Dhurve.
Meanwhile, attentive passengers also arrived at the scene and caught the accused. The passengers bashed up the accused. Rattled by this courage shown by passengers, other accused chose to beat a hasty retreat and they fled on the scooty. The passengers then took the accused to Dhantoli police station. Dhantoli police have registered a case under sections 341, 394, 294 and 34 of IPC. Sub-Inspector Vinod Kadlag and Head Constable Arvind Chavan made arrest.
