It write official letters, scan bank data and spot suspicious transactions. It sounds like science fiction - but it’s now reality in Maharashtra. The state police have started using Crime-OS, a powerful Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool developed under the MARVEL project (Maharashtra Research and Vigilance for Enhanced Law Enforcement). This tool, built in partnership with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur, works like the co-pilot feature in Microsoft Office - but to solve crimes. It helps police save valuable time and reduces the heavy workload of investigations. City police bosses took a review of the security arrangements for the new year eve and has instructed the staff to keep a tight vigil on the streets. Special arrangements will be in place at Futala lake side and on West High Court, the hot spots for the new year revellers.
To ensure that road romeos do not spoil the party, city police have decided to enforce nakabandi on the popular streets. The policemen would be on street from 6 pm to 6 am, ensuring that they are on spot to tackle any eventuality. Field units have been told to crackdown on rash driving, especially on drunken driving.
Every police station has carved out special force for deployment in their jurisdiction that are frequented by revellers. Charlie Commandos and crack teams would patrol on city street throughout the night, informed a senior police officer.
Joint Commissioner of Police, Sanjay Saxena told ‘The Hitavada’ that leaves of all the policemen were cancelled and around 4,000 police personnel would be on city streets for the new year eve bandobast. “We have identified some points in the city and woman police officers have been drafted and they would be deployed in plain clothes for security of women,” the Joint CP stated. He urged to citizens for avoid rash driving, misbehavior and drunken driving on the eve of new year.
Police pickets would be at West High Court road, Ladies Club, Law college Square, Shankar Nagar Square, North Ambazari Road, Lokmat square, Wardha road, Ajni Square, Ajni Overbridge, Deonagar Square, Sitabuldi, Variety Square, LAD College Square, Dharampeth Petrol pump, GPO Square, Residency Road, Sadar, Ashoka Restaurant, Kadbi square, Pagalkhana square, Central Avenue, Mayo Hospital Square, Fawara Square, Telephone Exchange Square, Wardhaman Nagar Square, Sakkardara Square and Cotton Market Square.
