TWO young lovers ended their lives by jumping in front of a running train on Godhni line near Mankapur Railway Crossing in Koradi area on Wednesday midnight. It is believed that parental opposition to their affair drove them to suicide. Mutilated bodies of Rashmi Sunil Bawangade (17), a resident of Quarter No 28, Model Town, Bezonbag, and Arman alias Deepak Karamchandani (21), a resident of HUDCO Colony, Jaripatka, were found on railway track around midnight.
Rashmi was a 12th standard student of Tidke Mahavidyalaya. Arman ran an electronic goods shop at Warpakhad. It is learnt that families of Rashmi and Arman were opposed to their affair. They had also warned the two to stay away from each other. According to information, Rashmi left home for college at around 1 pm on Wednesday but did not return till late evening. Her parents lodged a complaint with Jaripatka Police stating that Arman had kidnapped their daughter luring her with a promise of marriage.
On the basis of a complaint, Jaripatka Police registered a case under Sections 363 and 366 of the Indian Penal Code against Arman. An unidentified caller informed Arman about the complaint lodged by Rashmi’s parents. This naturally disturbed the couple. It was then that they reportedly decided to take the extreme step.
A linemen noticed them walking on the railway track and asked them to get off it. Rashmi and Arman misled the linemen saying that they were college students doing a research for which they were counting total number of trains passing from Mankapur Railway Crossing. After the lineman left the spot, Rashmi and Arman, together jumped in front of a speeding train.
Around midnight, some workers noticed their mutilated bodies on the railway track and informed the police. Staff from Koradi Police Station visited the spot. Cops found Rashmi’s moped and a college bag just few metres away from the spot. On the basis of her college identity card and her cellphone, Rashmi’s identity was established. Arman’s relatives identified his body after police informed them about the incident. After conducting the panchnama, cops sent the bodies to Mayo Hospital for autopsy.
The police informed the two families about the tragedy on wee hours of Thursday. Some relatives of the deceased visited the spot. From there, they went to Mayo Hospital. After autopsy, their bodies were handed over to the relatives. Last rites were performed on Thursday afternoon. Koradi Police have started investigations into the incident.
