The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. To hide their identity, the accused used SIM cards of Uninor and Tata Docomo. A police officer added that accused have purchased SIM cards by submitting forged documents. As cops seized duplicate Identity card, 52 plus passport size photographs of unidentified persons, cuttings of newspaper advertisements during the searches of their house.
The accused due had also threatened some other businessman for extortion money. Police investigation revealed that Ravindra searched various securities related and bomb making websites from his mobile phone. His father retired from RTM Nagpur University and Ravindra wanted to established his own business but lacked necessary finance. Hence he hatched a plan of extorting money. Ravindra first demanded Rs 10-15 lakh from businessman and then would settle for around Rs. 2 lakhs. Cops have also seized many sim-cards from the accused. Commissioner of Police Dr Ankush Dhanvijay addressed the press conference at Ganeshpeth police station and informed about breakthrough in the case. Crime rate in the city is increasing and cops seems helpless to rein the criminal. Hence State Government should immediately transfer Commissioner of Police Dr Ankush Dhanvijay, said city businessmen while addressing a press conference at the residence of Sunil Jejani on Friday.Santosh Agrawal, President of Anaj Bazar Dal Mill Association, said that cops have failed to control the crime in the city and businessmen are living under fear. Sunil Jejani said he had provided all details of the accused on Saturday to Crime branch, Ganeshpeth police and Joint CP. But they never initiated any immediate action against the accused.He also claimed that cops have arrested only two accused in the case though many more persons are involved in the extortion racket. Cops should interrogate the persons whose name have been revealed by the accused duo during their interrogation. Jejani also informed about process by which he got the clue about the accused and said that maximum numbers of accused who were targeted by the accused had purchased Verna car from Eros motors.

In a major breakthrough, Ganeshpeth police have arrested one more accused in connection with explosion and threat call to a city businessman. Similarly the cops also seized two pistols, five magazines, 56 rounds and explosives from the two.
