Major reshuffle expected in Maharashtra Police leadership

The State Home Department in Maharashtra is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its top police leadership, including the position of Director General of Police (DGP) and Police Commissioners of Nagpur and Thane. The impending retirement of the current DGP, Rajnish Seth, on December 31 has prompted the department to commence the process of selecting his successor.A top rank official said that several prominent names have emerged as contenders for the esteemed position of State DGP. The frontrunner is Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Shukla, who currently serves as the Director General (DG) of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar is also a strong candidate for the role. UAV Panchi's full configuration flight by October 2016 : DRDO

Full configuration flight of Panchi, a variant of Nishant, the unmanned aerial vehicle developed (UAV) by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for military use, is slated for later next year. By October 2016, the test flights with full configuration to assess its capability, are fixed, informed Dr K Tamilmani, Director General (DG Aero) (DRDO), while confirming the development to The Hitavada. Central Government rules out ITBP deployment in Gadchiroli district

Central Government has dropped its idea of replacing the central force with another command, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). Union Home Ministry reversed its decision and decided to walk with Maharashtra Government which wanted continuation of CRPF in the State. As per plan, ITBP was to take over anti-naxal operations in Gadchiroli from 2015. Set up ‘Investigation Wing’ at all Police Stations: DGP

In a move aimed at improving the quality of investigation in ‘sessions triable cases’ and boost conviction rate in the State, Director General of Police (DGP) Sanjeev Dayal has issued order to form separate ‘Investigation Wing’ at all police stations from July 1.  Dayal confirmed the development and told ‘The Hitavada’ that the move would definitely make an impact. As per the order issued on May 24, each police station shall have a separate Investigation Wing that will be entrusted with the ‘exclusive dedicated responsibility’ of investigation in all sessions cases registered at such police stations. ‘The Hitavada’ has in possession a copy of DGP’s standing order no. 24 of 2015. Through the order, the DGP has given time till July 1 to all the units to take ‘necessary action’ to disseminate instructions and prepare police stations. Nagpur girl takes to Twitter to get info about father stranded in Nepal

By Dheeraj Fartode A city girl Anuradha Nikumbh, used Twitter to reach out to External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj and locate her father Vasudeosingh Nikumbh (63) in Nepal after the earthquake. She had Twitted “"I had been trying hard since afternoon to reach out Ministry of External Affairs through phone. My dad is in Kathmandu I am unable to contact please help people like us.”" Minutes after her tweet, Sushma Swaraj asked for details about her father.  For Anuradha, she is currently working in Pune, it was a sort of a shock as she did not anticipate such a fast response and that to from an Union Minister.
